Palm Springs Set to Serve Up 16 New Courts Near Airport

Palm Springs could soon become a top-tier destination for dinks, drops, and post-match drinks with a new pickleball complex proposed just steps from the airport. If approved, Pickle Park Palm Springs would offer 16 courts, extended daily hours, and an on-site bar—turning a patch of land near Ramon Road into a serious hotspot for locals and traveling players alike. The city’s planning commission is set to vote on the project June 10, and so far, city staff is backing the plan.

The proposed location—right next to the Palm Springs International Airport’s cell phone lot—would give players flying in a nearly runway-adjacent option to get in a match or two before even checking into their hotel. Demand in the area is high; the public courts at DeMuth Park are already packed, and plans are underway to expand them as well. For a region with a sizable active senior population and a steady stream of pickleball-toting tourists, this facility seems like a no-brainer.

But of course, no development is that simple. The project still has to pass California Environmental Quality Act exemptions and go through the city’s Architectural Review Committee. Assuming the design doesn’t look like a sunbaked strip mall, it has a strong chance of moving forward. For Palm Springs players who’ve had to jockey for court time, relief could soon be coming—complete with wine service and a very short drive from baggage claim.
